John Caldwell is quick to admit that he's had a lot of luck in his design life, but anyone who sells a design to Brown Jordan at the age of 19, has to have a handful of talent to boot. His Silver Collection (1999) uses teak harvested from managed plantations where renewal of this valuable resource is assured. The teak is kiln-dried and left unfinished for a low maintenance natural surface that will acquire a beautiful silvery patina over time. (While this appears to be the source of the collection's name, in truth, the Silver Collection was named for Caldwell's manufacturer, a company that celebrated its silver anniversary at the time these pieces were first produced.) The Silver Collection features durable, commercial quality pieces made with generous proportions. In 1999, this collection received the Pinnacle Award, presented by the American Society of Furniture Designers. Other items designed by Caldwell include a Silver Chaise and Silver Dining Collection.
