Tizio Desk Lamp
Form literally meets function with the Tizio Lamp. Designed by Richard Sapper in 1972, the Tizio is built with two counterweights that allow the user to direct the light to exactly where it¹s needed. All that¹s necessary to adjust the lamp is the pull or push of a hand, and the lamp stays in place without the user having to tighten a knob or adjust a fastener. The fact that the arms conduct electricity to the bulb furthers the clean, simple look of Tizio by eliminating the need for extraneous wires. And Sapper¹s use of a halogen bulb was a watershed moment in lighting design; until that point, halogens had rarely been used outside of the automotive industry. A small reflector works with the halogen bulb to provide Tizio¹s highly concentrated light. The Compasso d¹Oro award winner in 1989, the Tizio is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Bulb (included): halogen 50W/12V.
