Moragas Table Lamp
Moragas Table Lamp
Appearing to defy the laws of physics, the Moragas Table Lamp (1957) is a study in the use of unexpected materials. The shade – which is five times bigger than the slender column that supports it – is made from a continuous piece of bookbinding tape that’s wrapped from the top of the shade around the bottom. Shadows from where the tape overlaps appear as vertical lines, creating an arresting visual effect. Antoni de Moragas Gallissa designed the lamp in 1957 for the reception area of the new office of the Catalan Architects Association, for which he designed much of the furniture. Gallissa allegedly had one on his desk and would store cards and memos by sliding them between the pieces of tape. Made in Spain. Bulbs (not included): three incandescent 40W/230V/E14.
