Silver Collection Two Seater
With metal cradling every curve, the Silver Collection Two Seater (1999) pairs smooth teak with durable aluminum. Note the artful construction of this collection: the way the teak armrests are inserted into the cast aluminum frame and how the metal casting cradles the curve of each wooden slat. The lack of ornamentation furthers the simplicity and purity of form. The Two Seater has generous proportions to accommodate two people comfortably in its shaped seat and back. These commercial quality pieces are crafted out of teak that's kiln-dried and left unfinished for a low-maintenance, moisture resistant surface that will patina into a silvery color over time. Designer John Caldwell uses wood that is harvested from managed plantations in order to promote the renewal of this valuable resource. When the collection was introduced in 1999, it was honored with the Pinnacle Award, presented by the American Society of Furniture Designers. Made in U.S.A.

John Caldwell got his first break as a furniture designer in Los Angeles in the 1950s. In the early days, he freelanced for Brown Jordan, a company that built steel army cots in kwanset huts during World War II and then went on to produce high-design modern outdoor furniture by Caldwell, Walter Lamb (who salvaged bronze tubing from sunken battleships off Hawaii for his pieces), and Van-Keppel Green (the partnership that created the majority of the patio furniture for John Entenza's Arts and Architecture case study homes). Since selling Brown Jordan his Mai Tai design in 1957 at the age of 19, Caldwell has designed outdoor furniture, office furniture and accessories, umbrellas, lighting, and ceiling fans for markets in the United States, China, Indonesia, and Mexico. He also taught design for twenty years at various southern California colleges including Long Beach...
