Authentic modern design “Our name embodies the mission of our company: to make well-designed products easily accessible to design-savvy professionals.” That was the first sentence in the first DWR catalog, which landed in mailboxes July 4, 1999.
Design Within Reach exists to make authentic modern design accessible. Authentic means that it’s the real thing. Accessible means that it can be seen and touched and that it’s in stock. When Design Within Reach was founded in 1998, consumers simply weren’t able to buy the classics at retail. To find them, they had to visit Europe or work with intermediaries.
