The Guéridon Bas (1944) coffee table by Jean Prouvé balances a robust structure with a sculptural silhouette. In the early 1940s, the French designer-engineer turned his attention to wood, due to the scarcity of metal during World War II. The coffee table’s angular legs branch outward for stability and are supported by steel hardware – creating an aesthetic that’s both rugged and light. This distinctive table lends itself to a wide range of interiors. Made in Poland.
  • Designed by legendary French designer Jean Prouvé.
  • Made from solid oak.
  • Unique juxtaposition of shapes and angles.

Jean Prouvé

“Never design anything that cannot be made,” Jean Prouvé once said. His practical body of work ranged from letter openers to doorknobs, furniture to modularly constructed buildings. Prouvé always regarded himself as more of an engineer, or “constructor,” than a designer. He never designed for the sake of form alone, concentrating instead on the essence of materials, connections, and production.
