It took almost 70 years for Poul Kjærholm’s PK23 Lounge Chair (1954) to make it beyond a simple sketch. The distinctive split-design seat was finally ushered past a prototype by Kjærholm’s wife, Henne, and brought to life by Danish furniture-makers Fritz Hansen. The chair’s wide, low form and beautiful vertical detail create a place for conversation – and a conversation starter. Clean lines and thoughtful proportions capture Kjærholm’s talent for precision design. The chair’s back and seat are crafted from laminated veneer shells, and the base is made of either stainless steel or powder-coated steel. Made in Denmark.

Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker but drawn to the potential of steel, Kjærholm brought craftsmanship and industrial materials together in the design of his PK series of furniture.
