Pierluigi Cerri’s Ouverture Sofa (1982) unites contrasting styles into a statement-making piece. Its industrial, matte-black steel frame references Brutalist architecture but is juxtaposed with plush, cloud-like cushions that appear to float on air. The down-filled loose cushions are attached to the padded frame but can be removed for cleaning. This standout piece, reintroduced by Poltrona Frau, melds ‘80s high tech with the best of handcrafted Italian upholstery for a sofa that is striking yet warmly inviting and deeply comfortable.
