Trained as an architect but proficient in nearly all design disciplines, Alexander Girard had a profound influence on 20th-century visual culture. During his 21 years as the director of design for the Herman Miller textile division, he designed more than 300 textiles, including Checker (1965). This cotton-blend pillow with feather filling is produced by renowned textile maker Maharam.
