It takes a skilled designer to make a metal bed look elegant rather than institutional, but Luciano Bertoncini has met the task. The Italian maestro — who first came to prominence when the legendary Joe Colombo included one of his pieces in a catalog — designed the streamlined Min Bed (2003) with thoughtful details such as curved edges and corners that protect shins and toes. The slat platform provides constant ventilation for a mattress (crucial for memory foam), while the sleek form also maximizes space under the bed, for those who use that area for storage. (Who, me?) No wonder the Min Bed has been a best-seller since its debut. Made in Italy.
  • Curved edges and corners for safety and a fluid look.
  • Slat platform provides constant mattress ventilation.
  • Strong yet slim frame maximizes storage space under bed.
  • Available with or without headboard (all are interchangeable and can be retrofitted).

Luciano Bertoncini

Luciano Bertoncini

Since 1958, Luciano Bertoncini has been happily helping to create Italy’s design scene. Some say that Bertoncini, a man who eschews the spotlight, hasn’t received due credit for the influence he’s had on contemporary European modernism. But that doesn’t seem to bother him. “Bertoncini is neither envious nor bitter,” says Virginio Briatore in the introduction to Bertoncini’s 1999 retrospective.
