The Hew Side Table is a celebration of organic shapes inspired by the forest. Designer Pat Kim has created a family of whimsical forms that each have a distinct personality. Working out of his Brooklyn studio, Kim is enchanted with the lathe and the shapes it encourages. “I’ll often take a bunch of wood scraps and start turning them just for form exploration,” he says. The Hew Side Table (2018) derived from those musings. “With wood, I get to basically play all the time.” Made in Poland.

Pat Kim

Pat Kim's curiosity was encouraged by his uncle who taught him, as a kid to create objects out of found materials. This led naturally to an interest in industrial design and since his graduation, he opened a cooperative woodshop on the shores of the East River in Red Hook, Brooklyn. And that’s when Kim's enchantment with the wood lathe emerged, along with the sculptural shapes it encourages.
